The 2023 HBS Native Plant Symposium has been postponed to September 13-14, 2024. However, please join us this year for a celebration of native plants and the publication of Jim Costa and Bobbi Angell’s new book —
Darwin and the Art of Botany:
Observations on the Curious World of Plants
September 16, 2023 • 2 – 6 PM • Highlands Community Building
Due to unforeseen circumstances the next HBS Native Plant Symposium has been postponed to September 13-14, 2024. Join us then for a fun weekend celebrating native plants!
In lieu of this year’s Symposium you are invited to join HBS on Saturday, September 16th 2023, 2–6 PM in the Highlands Community Building for the launch of Darwin and the Art of Botany: Observations on the Curious World of Plants, co-authored by HBS Executive Director Jim Costa and noted botanical artist Bobbi Angell!
Forthcoming from Timber Press, Darwin and the Art of Botany collects writings from six often overlooked Darwin texts devoted entirely to plants, and pairs each excerpt with beautiful botanical art from the library at the Oak Spring Garden Foundation, creating a gorgeously illustrated volume that never existed in Darwin’s own lifetime, and hasn’t since.
This book celebration will feature talks and a book signing by the authors, a silent auction offering native plants and a selection of botanical artwork benefiting the Highlands Botanical Gardens, and a reception sponsored by the Highlands Biological Foundation, Inc.!
