Join Dr. Paul Manos for Under the Canopy, a guided walk exploring the trees that shape our Southern Appalachian landscape. Along the way, Paul will share tips for recognizing species by their leaves, bark, branching patterns, and other distinctive characteristics while discussing their natural history and ecological importance.

Whether you are an experienced plant enthusiast or simply curious about the trees growing around you, this walk will offer a fresh perspective on the forest overhead.

The tour is free and open to the public. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. We’ll meet at the Highlands Nature Center before heading into the gardens!
