Institute for the Environment Student Research Papers

Each fall, students enrolled in UNC-Chapel Hill’s Institute for the Environment (IE) program at Highlands Biological Station undertake both an individual research project and a collaborative capstone project. These efforts culminate in final research papers, which are compiled annually into IE research reports available at the links below. Please note that before 2007, the IE program was known as the Carolina Environmental Program. The program did not take place in 2005, 2019, or 2020.

During Fall 2021, IE students took Remote Sensing and Landscape Analysis. As part of their course work they created a Story Map on the Station’s hemlock trees. Click here to read it!
