Resident Information

Beds & linens

All Station beds are extra-long (XL) twins. You must bring your own XL twin linens — fitted sheet, top sheet, blankets, and pillow. A mattress pad is recommended for extra comfort. Washcloths and towels are also required.

Kitchen use

Each residence has its own assigned kitchen. Label all food with your name and departure date — any unmarked items will be discarded. Please remove all food and belongings when you leave, unless you have arranged for someone to take responsibility.

Cleaning

There is no full-time housekeeper. A cleaning service visits once a week to clean common areas (bathrooms, living rooms, kitchen), but not bedrooms unless requested. Cleaning supplies are available. During busy periods, please keep your bedroom tidy and help maintain shared spaces.

Laundry

Cottage residents may use the free laundry facilities in the Weyman Building — bring your own detergent and empty the dryer lint trap. Valentine and Duplex residents use the machines in Valentine House; Duplex residents should notify Valentine residents before use.

Phone & internet

The HBS office number is 828.526.2602. Campus-wide free Wi-Fi is available, though you must bring your own device. Note that internet and cell reception can be weak or unavailable in the surrounding mountains — plan accordingly.

Campus access

Residents are encouraged to use the full Station. The Botanical Garden is open seven days a week. Outdoor classrooms are available outside reserved class times. The fire pit is first-come, first-served — bring your own wood and leave the area clean.
