Highlands on the Half-Shell 2024

First, let us say that we hope you and yours are safe and well. There are devastating reports from our community and neighboring regions – we send love and prayers to all.

Due to the storm impacts of Hurricane Helene, we have decided to cancel this year’s Highlands on the Half Shell. Beyond the significant adverse impacts from the storm to services here in Highlands, WCU facilities – including the Highlands Biological Stations – are closed and only emergency personnel allowed.

We are very grateful to report that all HBF & HBS staff, students, and Nature Center animal ambassadors are safe and well. The Highlands Nature Center is temporarily closed. Some portions of the Station are still without power and internet. Please stay tuned to HBF’s e-newsletters and the Station’s social media pages for updates on when the Nature Center will reopen.

We truly appreciate your support of this event and HBF, now and always. We hope that you will consider your Ticket purchase as a tax-deductible gift to HBF as we continue our stewardship of the Nature Center and our work with HBS and the community. If, however, you would like to receive a refund, please let us know and we will process that request as soon as power and services are restored here in Highlands.
