2021 Summer Camps

Important Information/ FAQs

Summer camps at the Highlands Nature Center are a cherished and long-standing tradition. This year, as with many things, they will continue to look a little different. If you have any questions that are not answered below, you can contact the Highlands Nature Center at 828-526-2623.

Will you be holding summer camps?

We certainly hope so! We are currently seeking approval from Western Carolina University to hold camps, as we operate at the Highlands Biological Station, which is a multi-campus center of Western Carolina University. We expect to know by March 1st if we will be able to move ahead with camps, barring any developments in the pandemic.

When will your summer camps be?

If we are able to hold camps, they will run from June 8th to August 6th. Each camp will be 4 days long. A full schedule will be available if camps open for registration.

What are your COVID-19 precautions?

We take the health of our campers and staff seriously. We will be implementing a COVID-19 protocol that follows guidance from the Town of Highlands, Western Carolina University, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and the American Camp Association. A full outline will be available if camps open for registration.

Will scholarships be available?

Yes, thanks to the generosity of the Cullasaja Women’s Outreach! Information on how to apply for a scholarship will be posted when camp registration opens.

What about refunds?

We will issue full refunds in the event of a cancellation due to COVID-19, either on the part of the Highlands Nature Center or a camper.
